“when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness and call it love, true love.”
– robert fulghum
after the word weirdness, add the words: honesty, communication, respect and trust to that saying and that closely describes joy+jonathan in a nutshell. (and…maybe add in a little bit of nerdiness too. haha) i’ve known joy for close to 15 years now, and am very grateful for our friendship over the years. to know that she’s found her “someone” warms my heart.
when i started brainstorming ideas for their wedding invitations, i knew i wanted it to reflect their outdoorsy personalities. they’ve traveled to different camp grounds on the west coast together (14+ campgrounds from the time they’ve known each other and started dating); imagine how much that count would increase if it was possible to teleport across the contiguous united states!
i also knew joy loved the look of watercolor and i wanted to incorporate my newly acquired, slightly beginner (ok, really beginner. eek!) calligraphy skills to use. it may have been a little bit of an ambitious project on my side, as i realized the art of calligraphy requires a lot of practice. but hey, can’t blame a girl for being inspired by the great molly suber thorpe and wanting to do a really, really pretty invitation for her good friend. =)
for their invitation booklet cover, i was inspired to watercolor a picture that jonathan took during their trip to glacier national park in montana. glacier national park holds a special place in their hearts because that’s also where they got engaged last september! and since jonathan is swedish, and joy is chinese, i made 3 different language versions for their guests because i’m just that awesome. haha.
i loved how everything came together in the end and i can’t wait to witness their union next month!
